New Natural Product Labelling Requirements

As of July 6th, 2022, Health Canada introduced a set of new labelling requirements for Natural Health Products.

    • A new Product Facts table

    • Manner of medicinal ingredient declaration

    • Front-of-package statements for homeopathic products

    • Listing of allergens and their sources

    • General legibility requirements

    • Format requirements

    • Specific labelling instruction for certain classes of products

  • Products already licensed with Health Canada must comply with the revised regulations. Health Canada has introduced a six-year transition period for products licensed before July 6th, 2022, and products have until July 6th, 2028 to comply.

  • Products licensed after July 6th, 2022 have until July 6th, 2025 to comply with the updated regulations. However, Health Canada encourages that the new requirements are implemented as early as possible.

Deadline update (2023): All NHPs licensed before June 21, 2025, must follow the new Plain Language Labelling guidelines by June 22, 2028. NHPs licensed on, or after, June 21, 2025 must comply with the new labelling requirements upon licensing.
